How Did We Start

Hailing from Ahmedabad and relocating to Mumbai, Rasiklal Jagabhai Sheth and Champakbhai Sodagar recognised the need to create a closeknit kinship among the Ahmedabad Oswal Jains who have settled here, to keep alive our social fabric.

In a bid to foster this sense of community, Sheth and Sodagar established the Ahmedabad Jain Visa Oswal Samaj Mumbai in 1958.

Apart from helping each other socially, the Samaj also sought to address the educational and medical needs of its members. From the onset, the Samaj’s vision to help and enhance the growth of the community, has been unwavering.

Since the time of our first president Chinubhai Lalbhai Sheth, who helped in writing the Constitution of the Samaj, we have continued on this path of service and fraternity.

A small seed was sown over 60 years ago; over time, it has grown into an admirably large Samaj. Today, we enjoy the fruits of the work and foresight of our past presidents as well as the guidance of prominent community members who have been torchbearers of the Samaj’s vision.

The illustrious list of presidents includes Manilal Moholal Jhaveri, Chinubhai Chamanlal Dalal, Anubhai Chamanlal Javeri, Suvarnakumar Ambalal Sheth, Rasiklal Sarabhai Javeri, Kalyanbhai Dalsukhbhai Jhaveri, Arvindbhai Chimanlal Dalal, Rajnikant Sarabhai Jhaveri (RS), Mahendra Lalbhai Shah, Pradip Rasikal Javeri and Umeshbhai Kesarichand Jhaveri.

We also take a moment to credit the immeasurable efforts of Ramnikbhai Chimanlal Javeri (Ramnikkaka), Yashwantbhai Sodagar, Dilipbhai Arvindbhai Jhaveri, Rameshbhai Vimalbhai Sheth, Chinubhai Ratilal Jhaveri, Udaybhai Hiralal Jhaveri, Bhadrakant Jhaveri, Rashmikant Jhaveri, Nareshbhai Vimalbhai Sheth, Geetaben Suketu Jhaveri, Anjanaben Pravin Jhaveri, Sunanadaben Ambalal Sheth, Anilaben Pravin Jhaveri, Subahu Yashwant Sodagar, Sandeepbhai Jhaveri, Gautambhai Jhaveri, Dineshbhai Lalbhai Sheth and Shailesh Chinubhai Sheth.

It is said that the greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members. With this spirit of duty and gratitude in our hearts, we remain committed to serving our Samaj members for generations to come.
